AboutARTISANAL STRUCTURES

Artisanal Structures builds by hand high quality distinctive tiny homes, outdoor structures, and crafted furnishings employing traditional and natural methods. We can restore or remodel your existing home or create your new dwelling, with furnishings . . . Artisanal Structures focuses on locally sourced quality materials fabricated into unique structures by skilled artisans.

Tiny Homes can be treehouses, trailered units under 200 sq ft, or cozy cottages on rubble-trench foundations. Artisanal Structures utilizes Natural Building materials and methods as championed by Sigi Koko of Down to Earth Design. Timber frames are hand cut in-house. Timber is sourced from local barn salvage or our favorite sawmill in Woodchoppertown, PA (yes, it’s a real place). Other methods employed are straw bale infill walls, earthen and lime plasters, rubble-trench foundations, hand worked steel and wrought iron, local stone walls & fireplaces, and more.

Outdoor structures may be pavilions, pergolas, gazebos, bridges or decks. Freestanding pool shelters, backyard patio covers, or Zen-like spa retreats are timber framed in Black Locust, White Oak, Eastern Red Cedar, Cherry and Walnut. Our first choice for timber exposed to the elements is Black Locust “Nature’s Pressure Treated”, White Oak, and Eastern Red Cedar for their natural rot resistance. Live edge Cherry and Black Walnut bring contrast and that eye-popping drama that only fine hardwoods add to a structure.

Crafted furnishings may be Bethlehem Steel Foundry Molds made into fine furniture, custom Cherry book shelves, leather tool sheaths, or Black Locust Raised Bed frames.

"MARK AND HIS TEAM COMPLETED A COMPLEX RESIDENTIAL REMODELING PROJECT FOR US. THE PROJECT INCLUDED MOVING ONE WALL, MODIFYING TWO OTHERS, INSTALLING A GAS FIREPLACE AND ASSOCIATED MASONRY, DUCTING AND ELECTRICAL WORK. HE WORKED CLOSELY WITH A NUMBER OF SUPPLIERS AND INSTALLERS TO ENSURE QUALITY WORKMANSHIP. THROUGHOUT THE PROJECT HE PATIENTLY ADJUSTED TO CHANGES AND PRESENTED ALTERNATIVE PATHS. WE ARE PLEASED TO RECOMMEND HIM."
